Working 4 The Weekend is a weekly series coving what to do this weekend.
For people of a certain age (what would that be now… 45 and under?) this weekend might be a video gaming weekend. Baseball is over, the weather is getting nippy… and the much-buzzed about “The Simpsons Game” has come out for most gaming systems (today, in fact).
This is not another Simpsons video game ripoff, it seems. Apparently, it’s Meta. VERY META. Early on, the Simpson family realizes it’s trapped in a video game, which allows them to spoof, parody and rip on every video game title and video game trope from Frogger, to Mario, to Everquest, etc. Look for “Grand Theft Scratchy,” which apparently, Rockstar Games is none to thrilled about.
The reviews say the game is nothing groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, but is potentially the “Funniest. Videogame. Ever.” (Variety.com review). IGN.com says, “The funniest episode of The Simpsons in years turns out to be a videogame.”
If none of that tempts you down to your local GameSpot, don’t forget, Guitar Hero III just came out this week also.
